Part 1: Provide feedback on the VRML lesson today, i.e. content, pace, and deliver method. Please be sure to include any questions you have about today's VRML lesson.
Part 2: Please post your ideas for promoting awareness of IT careers among teachers and students; was your awareness of these careers affected by today's presentations?

Part 1:
I was quite pleased with the animation training of today. I was not aware of such user friendly animation involving the use of a VRML program. The pace was not intimidating and everyone was able to follow along.
Part 2:
The afternoon discussion made me aware of some of the technology available to our students that I was unaware of. I did not know of the robot competitions or "computer babies."
POST 1-
I found the information useful. I liked that you talked us through first then gave us practice time. It was great having people to help.
I don't have any questions; I just need practice to use it.
POST 2-
Career day, videos of jobs like this morning, class discussion, guest speakers, visiting computer work places
I learned about a variety of careers. The businessmen opened my eyes to different jobs.
Part I: I think that the lesson that was taught this morning was fine. I think that there was a lot of material for some people with no programming background to absorb at one time. I think that the pace was a little fast, but letting poeple work on the material after teaching it was a great idea.
Part II: I cannot see how I can truly promote IT careers in my educational field. I think that maybe I could teach a unit on IT careers that is parallel to the computer/business classes. I think that today's material has increased my knowledge on the IT jobs are out there, but I don't feel that I have been informed as to what I need to do to help students reach these career areas. I think that I may need more help understanding what my part should be in their preparation as a science teacher.
Part I - I enjoyed the training this morning though enjoyed the playing part more. Very hands-on.
Part II - I think that the best thing we can do is to use and model the IT approach for our students...programming asn such, as well as offering times when they get to use introduction to the tech during class projects.
Part 1. I have no problem with content or delivery method, but slow down just a little or take more breaks!
Part 2. I think teachers need more professional development for effectively presenting these careers. I don't think that the majority of my colleagues have any idea what this is about. I like the videos that were shown this a.m.; they may be shown to the students to make them aware of the careers. I became much more aware of these careers with today's lessons, but feel that more info is needed!
Part 1:
The pacing was superb. I had little difficulty with the VRML script, but I confess to being slower to catch on than I thought because prior knowledge of other programming script (html, flash, PERL, C++) slowed me considerably. I think I tried to make things more complicated than necessary. I'm quite pleased to be able to introduce a product to my students which will enable nearly instant feedback on their projects.
Part 2:
The afternoon speakers were quite informative. I am quite familiar with jobs related to the IT industry as it was a huge part of my life before becoming a teacher. I did enjoy Mr. Pauley's discussion on continuing education and the ideas he related concerning the biomedical field had never crossed my mind as an IT field. The biomedical field is a massive industry!
I too enjoyed hearing from local districts to see how/what technology integration techniques they employ. I hope we can get some of those cool programs in Boone County!
Part 1: I really enjoyed the VRML lesson today. I am glad I had a little prior knowledge of HTML (although I was starting to get the two confused) and also some 3D animation experience or I think it would have been a little fast for me to catch on. I remember all to well when I was first introduced to both HTML and animation and was lost for a long time. VRML is very refreshing after having to deal with Animation Master 2000 for a full semester of crashes. Very easy approach to 3D modeling and teachable to middle school students and best of all, no software to have to purchase.
Part 2: I think I was pretty much aware of IT careers before this afternoon but I did hear some things to think about. Dr. Coppola seems to putting his faith in Americans being creative with technology if I understood him correctly. In Richard Florida’s book “The Flight of the Creative Class” it is explained how creative people in all careers, including technology, are finding what they feel to be better places to live and work as a creative mind. Other countries are not only opening the door to these creative people but offering incentives to draw creative minds to lands. The American government seems to have started to stifle creative minds since 9/11.
Gary Simms opened my mind to the pay of an IT person. If I understood him correctly the salary for one of these talented IT workers is about equal to a teachers salary. If that was the case in all of these jobs then I can understand why there is such a shortage.
I think the best part of the afternoon session was the part that I really thought I would not like, that was the local school representatives. I found that I really enjoyed learning what the different counties were doing to try to prepare their students for the job market. I would like to see someone like maybe RESA III set up something during the school year to allow technology teachers to visit other schools in the RESA as a group to get ideas of what is working and what is not in the area of technology in the schools.
I also agree with what was stated before. Yes it is good that everyone keeps telling us that we need to change the way we are teaching but I think it is time for someone to show us “old dogs” just how to go about that. Being aware of the careers in technology is great but if we as teachers do not know how to prepare the students it becomes a lost cause. No all of us are in that creative class of people that can come up with the ideas on our own.
Overall a good afternoon session.
Part 1:
I found the animation information training to very informative. The pace was a little fast for me. I need to practice. I liked that you talked us through first then gave us practice time. It was great having people to help. The mind can only absorb what the behind can stand.
Part 2: Today's speakers had some good ideas. It would be nice for last years teachers to come and tell about their success and failures.
I found the VRML very interesting, but also very confusing at times. I think it would be very neat if you had alot of time to really go through and learn all the nodes.
I really enjoyed the animation training. I like the hands on training it was very helpful. In the afternoon, the speakers were helpful in letting us know what type of employees businesses are looking for.
I enjoyed the initial lesson on VRML. I especially benefited from being able to practice the skill. I look forward to more applications and additional practice time today. Still and all, I am trying to brainstorm some ideas for my classroom project.
The afternoon session was interesting because it gave information about IT jobs in the world today; I was unaware of many of them.
The information from day 2 was quite usefull. I really enjoyed hearing from the county people. It was useful hearing about the different technology resources being used in the classroom.
